“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” – John 1:1-3.
You have just read the very first words the disciple John wrote when he began the narrative of what he knew. John 1:14 goes on to say that, "the word", who is Christ, "became flesh and lived among us" in the person of Jesus. John was well acquainted with Jesus and when asked, he gladly became one of his disciples.
The Bible shows that there is a typical management system in the Government of God. God, the Father, was responsible for the "engineering" of the creation of Earth, he spoke and Christ was the Word of God, or the active agent of creation. The Father, through Christ and by Christ, created the Earth and the life that existed there. In other words, the Father said, "This is what needs to be done..." and Christ was the one who carried it all out, he did all the "work" of God's planning.
"In the beginning…" the Earth was only a mass of solid material and water, suspended in the dark vacuum of space. This mass of material did have a gravitational center though so it was spherical in shape.
The direct quotation for the condition of Earth before creation is: "...the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters." - Genesis 1:2.
There are those who read Genesis 1:2 and say that there was nothing there before God began his act of creation. They say the words "without form” and “void" mean nothingness.
Those words in the original Hebrew are tohuw (tō'·hü) and bohuw (bō'·hü). Tohuw is translated as "formless and empty". Bohu is translated as: "void". The text as it is used in the book of Genesis indicates that the earth was shapeless and lifeless; the elements which made up its mass were all mixed together, unorganized, (without form) and without life, (void).
Those who believe there was nothing at all to begin with before God began his work of creation seem to overlook the part of the verse that says "…darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters." In other words, there WAS something there to begin with…there was water.
In Hebrew, the words "the deep" tehowm (teh·hōm'), originate from a root word meaning "to roar" or "to rage". It is used when referring to raging waters, roaring waves, the flood, or the depths of the sea. What the Bible is saying is that the waters of the surface of the Earth, at the time of creation, were in a liquid state.
Question. If there was no sun in existence to warm the earth before creation then how could the water that made up the earth be in a liquid or fluid state? The absolute dark, cold of space, without sunlight, is approximately -455 degrees Fahrenheit. Making ice cubes in conditions like that would be nearly instantaneous.
Our Earth today is known to have a molten core and that was obviously the case in the beginning, before the creation/terraforming of this planet began. The molten core was surrounded by water that was being kept in a liquid state because of the heat radiating from that core.
Heavy materials, such as those that make up the core of this planet, if abundant enough and when compressed together with enough force, will ignite into a nuclear furnace by fusion. The nuclear furnace at the core of this unformed world was and is, slowly burning off its own material as fuel. Any time you have combustion, of any kind, you will also have residue, or ash, as a result of that combustion. The volcanic islands that are scattered across this planet testify to the richness and fertility of the ash that is the result of internal molten activity.
With a massive furnace such as the core of Earth, in the beginning, there was a tremendous amount of burned off material, or ash, being produced. That material, following the rules of physics, naturally mixed with the thin layer of water that was being kept in a fluid state because of the nuclear furnace at the core of this earth. The waters of "the deep" were richly permeated with the "ash" from Earth's core. As Genesis 1:2 said: "The earth was without form...." Its elements were all mixed together in the waters and "in the beginning" the mixed together mass was completely unorganized and without life.
There has to have been an understandable process at work during the events that took place at the time of creation. Contrary to many people's views, God is not just a magician who makes everything appear by slight of hand, or while diverting your attention somewhere else. I'm sure he can bring something out of nothing but God is, among other things, a physicist and a genetic engineer of the highest order. Only our imaginations and superstitious/unfounded beliefs make him into something he is not. Think about that as we go through this time of creation and imagine it being done in a natural and orderly way, just as things are done in a natural and orderly way on Earth and throughout the universe every day. In spite of what mainstream creationists might say creation was and is a logical process, not magic.
I am by no means a scientist but I do understand the basics of what you would consider science. To be able to create the world as it is described in the book of Genesis would only be a matter of ways and means. Anyone, if they had the ways and means available to them, could do just as God did to the Earth...in the beginning.
From what we already know of intelligent life, science, physics and space why is it so hard for us to understand that someone could have come before us and put everything in place that was necessary to sustain a large variety of life on a planet like ours? Although God is described as being physically different from us it helps a little bit to consider him to be just like us as we think about the processes of creation. Look what we can do as humans. Are we the highest order of intelligence there is? It would be the highest order of ignorance to even entertain that thought when we consider the physical realities of time and space.
Genesis 1:2, 3 tells us that the Spirit of God hovered over the water and then God said, “Let there be light.” and everything was bathed in light. That light was not sunlight, because the sun had not been created yet. Although the light was a luminosity that brought everything into view it was also a light that had a point of origin. It was a light that separated light from darkness; a light that illuminated one side of "the water" but left the other side in darkness. The molten core of heavier elements that were at the center of the water were evidently rotating around a central axis and were likewise causing the surrounding mantel of water to rotate along with it. I mention the light that originated on the first day of creation as coming from a central source, as opposed to a general luminosity because at the end of that first day of creation we are told that a day would from that point on be marked off by light and darkness. "God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. So the evening and the morning were the first day." - Genesis 1:5. In other words nighttime and daytime, one rotation of the Earth, would be considered one day. You have to start somewhere.
Where did the light come from you ask? There can be no darkness in the presence of God; He IS light. Scripture makes reference to that attribute of his on more than one occasion. "O Lord my God, You are very great: Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment...." - Psalms 104:1, 2.
Matthew wrote of the time when Jesus was "transfigured" on a mountain with these words: "Jesus took Peter, James, and John, the bother of James, up on a high mountain by themselves. While they watched, Jesus' appearance was changed; his face became bright like the sun, and his clothes became white as light." - Matthew 17:1, 2. The disciples were given a shadowy glimpse of the glory that was a normal part of Christ's physical attributes before he left his home in Heaven to live the life of a human on this world. Until that moment on the mountain Jesus' disciples had only seen him as a person whose divinity had always been clothed in human form.
1 Timothy 6:16 says that God “…dwells in unapproachable light”. Scripture leaves us with many other references to the brightness that accompanies the presence of God.
Because of his presence, God was responsible for a separation, or distinction being made between the light and the darkness. When God said, "Let there be light." he was in essence saying, "Here I am, let's get this creation project started."
God, lighting the world with his presence, ended his activity on the first day of Earth, marked off, as it is now by nighttime and daytime. As I mentioned earlier a day was gauged by the amount of time it took for the mass of material that was pre-creation earth, which was suspended in space before the creation process began, to rotate once on its axis. How long it took in terms of our current understanding of time, no one knows. It took one day, however.
On day two, God created an atmosphere that would surround this mass of material. The atmosphere, what we call the sky, separated the water into two distinct groups. "Then God said, 'Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters and let it divide the waters from the waters.'" - Genesis 1:6. I do not have a clue how he created the atmosphere but, scientifically, it would be entirely possible. The WWW provides some interesting ideas on the necessary ingredients for the creation of an atmosphere; which I am not going to get into here. Just understand that it is possible, having the ways and means, to be able to create an atmosphere. Some of the ingredients necessary for that creation could very well have been present on the pre-creation earth and could have been easily atomically manipulated to create the atmosphere; an atmosphere that trapped water vapor in the upper layers of that atmosphere. If we can understand a creative process, and the logical steps that could be involved in that process then it is wrong to exclude the possibility of an "otherworldly" creative force at work on this planet.
On Earth, the water continued to co-exist with the mixed up residual material that had been and that was continuing to be produced by the molten core. That residue would eventually make up the surface of this planet. The water which was separated from the earth by the new atmosphere became a permanent shroud of clouds enclosing this planet; protecting its soon to be created inhabitants from a soon to be created nuclear fireball. The newly created atmosphere and cloud cover, along with the support of the magnetic field of the Earth, effectively blocked all harmful radiation being produced by the sun. The atmosphere was also responsible for keeping this planet in a controlled greenhouse condition.
The atmosphere, with its surrounding layer of clouds, began the process of controlled global warming. The warmth that the core of the Earth was producing would no longer be lost to the cold, dark of space. Instead, much it would be trapped by the upper layer of clouds, creating a warm, humid, hospitable atmosphere that would be necessary for the water dependent life that was soon to be produced on the planet. Global warming was one of God’s ideas in the very beginning; however, global warming now is not the same as it was then because many of the components of the original Earth are no longer in place to regulate that warming. This planet was meant to be kept warm like a greenhouse and we know, through geology and archaeology, that at one time in our past the Earth WAS globally tropical in nature, even at the poles.
We have been taught by evolutionists that the surface of this Earth was formed by a slow-moving process over eons of time. When you are raised to believe a certain way, it becomes rather difficult to think any other way. It is understandable then to see why very few go beyond Darwin in their thinking. His writings become dogma after a while, a bible and religion (a cause or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion) of its own. In that respect I guess we all understand how difficult it is to go against the “voice of god” don’t we?
On the third day God did something rather unique and I believe it is something that not too many creationists have really thought of in detail before because they refuse to travel away from the idea that God just "magically" created the earth out of nothing. On the third day we are told that God brought the water covering Earth together into different places and in other places he let dry land appear. He called the dry land Earth and the collected waters he called seas. "Then God said, 'Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place and let the dry land appear.'" - Genesis 1:9.
God bringing the waters into one place implies nothing more or less than separating the water from the solid "ash" material that the molten core of the earth had produced; the material that was mixed in with the water. The water was "gathered together" in one place so the solid materials of the earth would become exposed. Scientifically speaking, something caused the materials that would make up the surface of the earth to rise to the top of the water. What could cause something like that to happen?
To see land rise up out of the water that completely covered this planet must have been quite a sight. First, there was only water as far as the eye could see and then great areas of land began to rise up from out of the waters and changed the surface of Earth.
Take a good look at a cross section of this planet. It is easy when you stand on the rim of the Grand Canyon, or drive through any number of areas in this country and view the vast faces of exposed earth that appear to thrust up from the ground around it. You can also see the structure of our world when driving through an area that has been excavated with machinery to make way for roads or buildings. Notice the constant layering that appears to go on forever. We are told by evolutionists that the layers of the Earth are the result of slow buildup over eons of time, each layer being the result of a long period of time, which is covered by another layer over a long period of time and so on, until we have the topmost layering being the present period of time.
From the evolutionary perspective, where did the substance for all of this layering come from…out of thin air…did it all come from space? Also, what caused it to separate from the water, in layers? Think about it in another way for a moment. Think about it from the viewpoint that it was created exactly that way from the materials that were already in existence on the earth...in the beginning. What would be the purpose of layering the solid substances of Earth in that way and how was it done?
We are told from the biblical record in Genesis 1:9, 10 that the waters which now fill the oceans of Earth were all brought together in one place and the solid substances of Earth were brought out of the water. Large areas of water called seas were also created during this time. The number, size, shape and depths of those seas are unknown; however, we can safely assume that they were strategically placed for harmonic balance while this planet rotated through space for eternity. Those seas also had to be large enough for the variety and sizes of the creatures we know populated them and that still exist to this day.
The natural law of physics teaches us that the solid outer surface of Earth was created by allowing the different elements of the materials that were suspended in the water to layer according to their individual specific densities as this planet slowly rotated on its axis; each layer providing a function in the construction of this great Earth. To begin the movement of this suspended, solid material to the surface of this ball of water would have required nothing more than a change in the chemical makeup of the water on this globe. Essentially, moving the solid material of this planet to the surface of the water would require nothing more than adding sodium chloride (salt) to the water.
When you consider the amount of sodium chloride this world contains, then the amount of salt in the water, at the time of creation, would have been of a much higher concentration than we see today. The waters of the world today contain only a fraction of the salt that can also be found in the massive salt deposits that are scattered throughout the surface and in huge underground areas of the world. Highly concentrated salt can also be found in large areas of landlocked lakes and seas and trapped in underwater pockets of the worlds oceans. Searching the WWW will give you a slight idea of the volume of salt contained on and in this planet. Bear in mind, those are only the salt deposits we are aware of. There is also a tremendous amount of salt that permeates the rocks and soil of this planet.
As the sodium chloride caused the solid material of the Earth rise to the surface, the water that was then under the surface of the Earth would eventually supply the surface of this planet with pure, fresh water.
The water under the surface of the earth was also continuing to act as a cooling agent for the core of the earth, which consisted of the heavier elements that would not suspend in the sodium enriched water.
It was from the water that was in "the deep", or under the ground, that the mist arose that watered the surface of the Earth instead of rain. "For the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the earth...but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground." - Genesis 2:5, 6. I'll explain that process in more detail in just a little bit.
What we have then, at the end of Earths creation, is a molten core at the center of the earth; the core was surrounded by highly concentrated salt water which was surrounded by the solid, layered substances of the Earth. The surface of the newly created earth was like a huge global waterbed. I will be going through a little experiment in material density with you in just a little bit and you will see how it all fits together into a workable model.
One of the reasons for God causing the material of this Earth to layer during creation could be for shock absorption. Look at how the muscles of the body are layered over each other. They provide strength, elasticity, density and protect and strengthen the bones and important organs of the body. Gravitational effects from within the planet and from orbiting bodies out in space can create a great amount of stress on delicate substances. Shock absorption for a newly created planet that was meant to last for eternity and keep its inhabitants from harm would be a matter of great concern for a Creator as thoughtful as ours. I am sure some of the greater thinking minds of this world could come up with a few other reasons for purposely layering earth over and in water, under the pressure of an atmosphere, surrounded by a magnetic field and in the vacuum of space.
On the fourth day, God created two lights to shine upon the Earth. First, there was sunlight. A tremendous amount of material was brought together and because of the volume of this material and the effects of gravity, it compressed with such force that it ignited into a nuclear furnace that brightened and warmed this newly created Earth from the outside. Our star was created and as we look out into the cosmos we can see that creative activity going on all the time.
On the opposite side of this planet, as the nuclear furnace of the Sun was warming up, God brought another mass of material together and created another heavenly body. It orbited the Earth opposite the Sun. It is my opinion that this other orbiting body always kept to the side of the planet opposite the Sun as the earth rotated on its axis and orbited the sun. The surface of this orbiting body that we call the Moon was smooth and unbroken at the time of creation. It is even possible that there was a slight atmosphere on the Moon that helped in reflecting the light of the opposing Sun in such a way that the dark side of Earth was lighted with reflected sunlight nearly as much as the side that faced the Sun. The Moon was, in effect, a giant mirror.
There are ancient traditions that claim that the Moon was, at one time, much brighter than it is now and larger in appearance than the Sun. Two rabbinical sources, the Targum Yerushalmi translation of the Torah, specifically Genesis 1:16 and Ginzberg, Legends, V, 34ff, claim that the Sun and the Moon were of equal brightness in the beginning.
The 16th Century Spanish Franciscan, Fray Bernardino de Sahagun, spent much of his life as a missionary working with natives in the New World. In Historia general de las cosas de la Nueva Espana, he says the Peruvian aborigines claimed that “the Sun and the Moon had equal light in the past.”
In another part of the world the Japanese echo those statements. Nihongi, in Chronicles of Japan from the Earliest Times, Book I, says that in the past, “the radiance of the moon was next to that of the sun in splendor.”
Those same sources also say that the Moon lost much of its light and is now much fainter than it was in the beginning. Sir John Eric Sidney Thompson, Motif-index of Folk Literature (1932); Ginzberg, Legends, VI, p. 35; Handbook of South American Indians, Vol. II, p. 515, (American Bureau of Ethnology [Washington, 1948].
Right now we are talking about the Moon at the time of the Genesis creation. Later, the Moon’s surface would become marred with craters and its reflective abilities would be shattered and drastically reduced. We are told in Isaiah 30:26, that when the Earth is recreated in the future that “…the light of the moon will be as the light of the sun.”
On the fifth day of creation the Earth was ready for living creatures to inhabit the waters that covered parts of this planet as seas and in the lakes and the streams that flowed across the earth; water that had percolated up through the depths of the soil, in the process filtering out the salts from the inner stratum of water. The sky was then given to the newly created living creatures that flew across the land. All living creatures lived off the substances that the Earth produced. Inanimate life supported animated life.
On the sixth day of creation, God brought onto the world’s stage the crowning glories of this great planet. Creatures as great as the dinosaur and as small as the smallest creatures we know were formed to walk and inhabit the land, on and under its surface. Again, animated life was supported by inanimate life.
Were some dinosaurs flesh eaters? In Genesis 1:24, when God created the land creatures that would inhabit Earth, they were classified into three different groups.
1. CATTLE/TAME ANIMALS – The Hebrew word for cattle is behemah (be·hā·mä') and as scripture translates the word cattle it means nothing more than a big “dumb” animal. Cattle generally means the larger, domesticated four legged creatures.
2. CREEPING THINGS/SMALL CRAWLING ANIMALS – The Hebrew word for creeping thing is remes (reh'·mes). These are the smaller animals that moved rapidly with feet that were either small or were barely noticeable.
3. BEASTS OF THE EARTH/WILD ANIMALS – These are the big bad boys. The Hebrew word chay (khah'·ē) considers them “freely roving wild animals.”
When God created this Earth, he made a special place called Eden for the humans to live in. This place was special in that there were only tame and manageable creatures within its borders. It was also a place where there was to be no death or destruction. Now days we would call a place like that paradise. It is hard for us to imagine but this whole Earth was at one time a greenhouse of global proportions and massive creatures like dinosaurs and their like were needed to keep the foliage to a minimum. It was literally a jungle outside the boundaries of Eden.
In the world around us we see violence everywhere. Not only does man kill man and animals alike but animals are vicious and predatory toward us and each other. According to scripture the nature of creation was changed when our relationship with God changed. (More on that later.) We are also told that there will come a day when the Earth will be recreated to be just like it was in the beginning and the destructive nature of living things will be also be changed. When that happens every creature that populates the newly created Earth will no longer be aggressive to humanity, or to each other. "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play by the cobra's hole and the weaned child shall put his hand in the vipers den. They shall not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain." - Isaiah 11:6-8. It will be exactly as it was in the beginning.
Actually, what the dinosaurs did to each other is always going to be a matter of debate…well, for the time being that is. Tyrannosaurus Rex could very well have been a vegetarian. His teeth would have been great for stripping the foliage from trees. I am not here to argue the dietary habits of the animals however.
On this sixth day of creation, an ultimate being was brought onto the scene last of all. This being was a unique creation in the universe of God. This being was to be made like no other. At this time the Father said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” – Genesis 1:26.
God told this newly created couple how they were to treat the Earth and the creatures around them. He also gave the newly created Adam and Eve directions on what they were to eat. "And God said, 'See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.'" - Genesis 1:29. Those who were created in God's image were vegetarians in the beginning. All of the other creatures that God had placed within the garden were also vegetarians because there was to be no death within its borders. "Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food". - Genesis 1:30. It was not until after the agriculture of the world had been devastated by a global flood that humanity was told to eat flesh food.
It is not my purpose to point out all the nice little things that were created along the way and spend a great amount of time exploring them before we move on. With the creation of the world I could write a book all by itself, so I will resist the urge to say, “Just a moment; did you see this…and how about this…and that over there?” No, like an objective minded father, with his wife and a car full of kids I will remind you, we are only stopping for a moment. We will take some pictures and handle a few necessities, but we have to continue with the narrative. When you have time later, you can go through the pictures we took along the way.
All of our lives we have been taught by evolutionists that we are the descendants of apes, who were the descendants of some other creature, that was a descendant of something else that came from the ocean, that was a descendant of something else without lungs, that was a descendant of something that could not even move on its own, that was a descendant of a collection of primitive cellular activity, that came about by the organizing of proteins in unique and individual ways, that came about by the energizing of amino acids, that sprang into being because of specific coding by genes in DNA, that came about by chance billions of years ago.
I was raised with that teaching from the time I can first remember being curious about where it all started from in the first place. When I was a child, something like that actually made perfect sense. It was like being told about Santa Claus, or the Tooth Fairy. They were good explanations one and all, but I found them to be seriously lacking in academic understanding as I grew older and began to reason for myself. I have no problem with people telling me what they think, but when it comes to telling me what reality is you can be sure that I am going to be asking questions about those statements regarding that reality of theirs.
Such as: How can something without the ability to think and reason, or even the ability to sense its surroundings, realize that it has a need for something to think, reason, or sense with? How does it know there is something in its environment that it needs to be aware of if it does not have something to sense its environment with in the first place? In other words, how can something without a brain realize it has a need to evolve a brain? How can something without sight realize it has a need to evolve a structure as complex as the eye so it can see what it did not know it could see in the first place?
I have just started here. We can go on and consider the acquirement of hearing, taste, touch, smell...you understand what I am saying. The complexity of the brain is something I will not even try to explain. Look at the structure of a finger. It can perform such intricate movements as removing an irritant from the eye or it can clutch an object of substantial weight and throw it a long distance and with great speed and accuracy. The neural activity required and accomplished during those two actions alone is what is truly amazing to me.
As people who are as fascinated with the mechanics of things as we are, it is amazing how we can overlook the simple and amazing mechanics of our own bodies and see that, like a car, it could not just have happened into existence. When you think of the possibilities of the structures of life as we know them, evolving from a combination of elements and forces into what we are now…well, let me put it this way...
Although I am not a scientist I do enjoy reading about scientific things and thinking along scientific lines. Genetics is also something that fascinates me because genetics is the active force at work in deciding exactly how we are created. Genetics is a language; a program; a code.
Think about those last three descriptive words; language, program and code. We are very familiar with all three of those words because we constantly use them throughout our everyday lives.
I have spoken the English language all of my life. The English language consists of twenty-six letters. Those twenty-six letters are the result of intelligent creation. You can look at the word “sky” and your thoughts are automatically directed to that area far above your head. Those three letters have to be placed in exactly that combination to convey the idea of the atmosphere. Place those same three letters in another combination…say, “kys” and the English language idea of floating clouds completely disappears and your mind only sees a confusion of letters with no point for reference. If the English, computer and genetic languages that we are so familiar with were garbled in the same way then confusion and death, instead of creation and life, would be the result.
Speech is the medium that all intelligent life on Earth uses in order to communicate thoughts and ideas. Speech, in some form, has always existed, but the written versions of those words were created to document history and the thoughts and ideas that we have, in a more permanent way. Because of that permanent documentation those words can be read by the generations who follow us. Written words are a visible version of what we say and hear. We read that written version and understand exactly what would normally have to be spoken to be understood. The words in this book will always convey my thoughts. Other intelligent, creative beings can easily understand what I have written, so I do not have to be there to verbally explain those same thoughts to them. There can be no serious question that written language is the result of intelligent design.
I would like to get into an exercise in the possibilities of evolution but before I do you have to understand that, according to what I have read on the subject, evolution is said to take place because of a recognized need in an organism. That reasoning would have to apply for vision to have evolved; there had to have been a recognized, or perceived, need for sight. The same need would also be necessary for the development of hearing, lungs, touch, smell, etc. According to evolution an organism would not have develop those things if there were no need for them.
To be seen as an object lesson only, and not as a complete scientific theory to be used as positive proof, we can also just as easily speculate that the development of the written English language came about in the same way; because there was a recognized need for a written language.
Language began with a system, or series, of symbols. In the English language that I am so familiar with there are currently twenty-six of those letter symbols...not including punctuation. There had to have been a recognized need for those twenty-six symbols before the construction of a single word could begin. Without those original symbols there would have been no possibility for the written English language to even begin to develop into something as simple as a single word. Understandable, written English words could not have come into being without the presence of the alphabetic symbols of the English language and those words would have no expressive meaning without punctuation. Again, there is no one who can argue that intelligent, creative forces were at work to have developed the large variety of languages that are scattered throughout the world. Let us just imagine for a moment though, imagine that the written language we are so familiar with, and that we so easily use and take advantage of, evolved on its own only because there was a perceived need by a single living cell, somewhere, for such a communicative form of expression.
Giving the evolutionary believers a little leeway here I will grant them a massive concession that the twenty-six symbols of the English language, the software you might say, were already in existence before there was a perceived need for a written English language. Why they would have been in existence before there was a perceived need is unknown. We can only guess that there must have been a pre, pre-evolutionary need for the English language to exist. If that is the case then those symbols would have had to have developed in anticipation of that need for a written language. I will grant them that massive concession only to make it easier for them to complete the "scientific" experiment that follows.
I am going to give three different examples of the probabilities of evolution. Please bear in mind that these are only hypothetical probabilities so, for the sake of simplicity, we will assume that the complex “hardware” and “software” for these probabilities has already "evolved" and are in place for the experiments that follow. I know, that is giving the process of evolution a tremendous head start but I'm feeling generous here OK?
One theory of evolution, simply put, is that there was, in the beginning, a pool of amino acids that became energized with “life” by some kind of random, outside force. With that in mind we will begin this little experiment with…oh, I don’t know, twenty-nine trillion one inch square wooden tiles. Since no one is sure of the size of the original energized pool of amino acids that began the process of the evolution of intelligent life then I would say that twenty-nine trillion possibilities for life to begin and evolve would be fair…assuming that the evolved life, and corresponding supportive environment, continued to survive in its brand new energized state for a few million years, or until the next stage of evolution changes it into something else…and that it then continues to survive in THAT brand new evolutionary state, and supportive environment, for another few million years, or until the next stage of evolution changes that life into something else...and so on...and on...and on...
Twenty-six trillion wooden tiles in our experimental pool of life will have one of the twenty-six letters of the English alphabet written on both sides. That means we will have one trillion tiles with A's on them, one trillion tiles with B's on them...etc. We will need punctuation as well so I will also add another three trillion tiles to the pool. One third of those tiles will have an opening quotation mark, one third will have a closing quotation mark and one third of those tiles will have a period. In all there will be twenty-nine trillion tiles in our "primordial alphabet soup" I believe in being more than fair so if you think there should be more…or fewer tiles in the evolutionary pool then by all means add, or subtract from the pool as you like. Also, in keeping with the spirit of fairness I will intentionally omit the need for capitalization and proper spacing between words. I will now deal the evolutionists of the world a hand from a deck that is drastically stacked in their favor. It would be interesting to know what their odds of winning are.
Here now is the challenge to those who believe in evolution. First, fill the pool of wooden tiles with water so the tiles of our experiment can randomly float about. In that way each tile will have an equal chance to "evolve". Now, randomly, without looking, and one at a time, pull the tiles out of that pool and lay them side by side in a continuous line. Somewhere along that line I want you to produce, with the correct punctuation, the word "god." If you don’t succeed after all the tiles are pulled from the pool then you can put the tiles back into the pool and try again until you do produce the word "god." No cheating now.
After you have produced that correctly punctuated word I want you to remove the punctuation so that only the word, god remains. Now, glue those three remaining tiles together in their proper order, toss the god tile, and the separated punctuation marks, back into the pool with all the other tiles and proceed to the second phase of our evolutionary experiment. The second phase is just like the first and with the same procedures, only this time you must produce the sentence "iamgod." In this phase you do have an evolutionary edge because you have the chance of pulling the completed god tile from the pool and joining it with the letters that are needed to complete the sentence "iamgod." Who knows though, you just might complete the sentence "iamgod." WITHOUT the help of god. Heh, heh...get it? After you have completed the sentence in phase two I want you to, once again, remove the punctuation and glue the remaining tiles together so that they read, iamgod and again toss that completed sentence and the separated punctuation marks back into the evolutionary pool, along with all the other tiles and proceed to the third and final phase of our evolutionary experiment. There will only be three phases to this experiment. I am really trying to make this easy…evolutionarily speaking.
In phase three I want you to follow the same procedures as the previous two phases only this time I want you to complete the sentence, "iamgodandsoareyou." Again you have the probability of pulling the god and/or the iamgod tile out the pool and joining them together to complete the final sentence. How many years do you think it would take to get only that far in sentence development? Now consider, how long would it take to develop a simple instructive primary reading book like "Fun with Dick and Jane"?
How about a computer program? A computer program is nothing more than 1’s and 0’s. I would imagine that a two digit program would be much simpler than a twenty-six letter language? Those 1’s and 0’s tell a computer program what to do. Those 1’s and 0’s are nothing more than a way of telling a program “yes” or “no”, or “on” and “off”. I am using those simple 1’s and 0’s as I work with a computer program to type these letters and words into a book.
Those simple 1’s and 0’s were used to create programs that sent the Deep Impact probe into space on January 12, 2005. Once in space it traveled 268 million miles, at a speed of 103,000 mph and accurately impacted Comet Tempel 1 at 23,000 miles per hour. Then those same 1's and 0's were used to send back intelligent data concerning that impact; data that we can understand.
My challenge to those who believe in evolution is exactly the same as in the previous experiment with the letters of the English alphabet. This time we're only using 1's and 0's in our evolutionary pool. Take those 1’s and 0’s and randomly join them together to develop a complete computer program that will print out the word "god.". For this example I want to remind you that you will first need a program to develop a program that will print out the word "god." as well as also needing a program that will be able to interpret those randomly joined together 1’s and 0’s…oh, and the hardware to run it. Once again, however, in the absolute spirit of fairness and to make things easier, I will NOT insist that you first evolve those programs or hardware.
Just for your information the word "god." in computer code would look like this: 001000010110011101101111011001000010111000100001
After you have created that program I want you to continue to develop that program in the same way that the example of the twenty-six letters of the alphabet was developed and with the same results in all three cases. Can that be done?
Again, just for your information, the sentence "iamgod." would look like this: 001000010110100101100001011011010110011101101111011001000010111000100001
And the sentence "iamgodandsoareyou.", without spacing between words would look like this: 0010000101101001011000010110110101100111011011110110010001100001011011100110010001110011011011110110000101110010011001010111100101101111011101010010111000100001
If spacing were included in this last simple sentence 48 more digits would have to be added 00100000 between each word.
In the alphabetic and binary code "experiments" above, if you were to damage, destroy or wrongly code a word(s), phrase(s), program(s) or punctuation(s) while you were randomly adding and subtracting characters you would then have to start all over again. That would only make natural selection, evolutionary sense would it not? If something were to die or be destroyed during any evolutionary process then that evolutionary process would have to begin all over again, from the beginning.
Also, in both of the above instances, for there to be evolutionary language diversity throughout the world, the same procedures would have to keep the sentence structures “alive” while changing those two examples into all of the different languages (species) of the world.
True, a written language can not be considered a living entity, like a single cell would be, but the same principles of randomly joining and separating the necessary elements for language or for life to “evolve", all while keeping the sentence or cell structure alive, are identical.
Intelligent humans have created and accomplished so much on this world as a result of our written languages and programs. Just for the sake of an argument, would it be fair to us as intelligent, creative beings to have someone from another planet view the work of our hands and then declare that all we have created is an amazing result of evolutionary adaptation and change; a wonder of survival of the fittest?
Let’s move on to another code/language/program that is contained within the individual cells of EVERY single, living creature and plant on this Earth.
You can relax, I am not about to explain the complex process of genetic engineering that even the simplest cell must goes through in order to become a functioning, living entity, let alone the genetic manipulation that single cell has to go through in order to become a living, active part of a larger, more complex organism. Many good resources for beginning to understand that process can be easily found on the WWW.
Simply put, genetics is a language in the same way that human language and computer language are. In its simplest form the genetic language consists of four letters; A, C, G and T. That genetic language, in a myriad of combinations, form the twenty different amino acids that go on to create the 100,000 or so different proteins that make up the various parts of the human body. There are 10,000 different kinds of proteins in a single human cell alone.
The creative genetic forces at work control the process' that begin the creation of protein, the type of protein to be created, how much protein to produce, how to put it all together to form the cell being created and when to stop that creative process. After a cell is created the genetic information then tells each cell to continue that same genetic process in order to create the body part it was designed to be and to stop creating when that body part is complete. The genetic process also controls where that body part is to be created in relation to everything that is already created and in relation to what has yet to be created. That genetic process never stops because every cell is subject to being damaged in different ways, aging and death and requires replacement. It is a process that continues until the death of the body itself.
The creation of a living creature is kind of like beginning at the atomic level until individual parts are formed and then joined together to form an automobile. Genetic language creates and shapes ALL living organisms. If the genetic language of our bodies were as randomly thrown together as our two previous evolutionary “experiments” with the English language and the computer language then it would be just as possible to produce a single cell as it would be to produce the entire works of Shakespeare by cutting all of his works apart, letter by letter and then recreating them again by randomly laying all those letters out again, end to end.
I hope I have been clear on this. I can't even give you the benefit of doubt by saying that it could be possible to randomly produce a basic genetic language over unknown billions of years; nor give you more benefit of doubt and say that it could be possible for that genetic language to become sophisticated enough to produce a single cell over another unknown billions of years. To randomly develop that genetic language, while leaving the previous genetic language and existing life intact, until it randomly developed into a genetic language that produced a multitude of various cells, which in turn created a living organism as simple as a jellyfish would be more than impossible.
According to evolution, to continue to survive, all of the random genetic language and cellular activity in this world, over billions of years, would have had to have taken place in the “primordial soup” of an environment that would then have had to have REMAINED a perfect, living environment for those struggling, “evolving” and living processes to continue until they became a viable, living organism that was able to survive changes in the environment that would have otherwise destroyed it at an earlier stage in its development. That perfect, living environment would also have had to have CONTINUED to remain that way for billions and billions of years as those vulnerable living processes continued to evolve into viable, self-sustaining organisms. Is that possible?
I believe I can prove to you that there is a God/Creator, but I cannot tell you where he came from and I am more than willing to admit it. In fact, I would almost go so far as to say that if you were to try to press God into as much of a corner as you could that you just might possibly hear him say that he does not have a clue as to where he came from either. God says that he has always been and that, before him, there has been no other. As far as we know, that is all God knows of his beginning.
We, on the other hand, have a very clear picture of where and how we came into existence. It all began on planet Earth, thousands of years ago, not billions of years ago. It all began by the active will of a creative cellular and genetic genius who knew how to create living organisms from inorganic material and who then put those living organisms together in such a way that they became living, breathing cellular machines with the ability to function just as he does. We were created in the very image of our Creator.
You can speculate all you want as to our nature and all you will come up with is that, by all observations, we were created to live forever, but somewhere along the way eternal life became derailed.
Our natures as humans were changed, early in the beginning, when our first parents, Adam and Eve, decided for themselves and for every genetic descendant of theirs, to call God a liar and to go their own way in life. THAT is how it all began and there is so very much more to say about how it all came about, what has happened since then...and how it is going to end.
